Code of Ethics

Together We Are Stronger.

Together We Lift exists to bring people together. We believe strength communities can achieve more when people communicate, collaborate and support one another. Every volunteer representing Together We Lift helps us create that culture.

This Code is not about controlling people's personal lives or opinions. It is about making sure that when we wear the Together We Lift name, we represent it with kindness, integrity, respect and good judgement.

Representing Together We Lift

When wearing our clothing, attending an event, speaking on our behalf or using an official Together We Lift platform, please remember that your behaviour reflects on the wider community we are building.

We ask volunteers to:

  • Be honest and respectful.

  • Maintain appropriate boundaries.

  • Keep confidential information private.

  • Avoid making commitments on behalf of TWL without approval.

  • Use social media responsibly when representing TWL.

  • Never present a personal opinion as an official Together We Lift position.

  • Look after TWL equipment, funds and resources responsibly.

Our volunteers will always have their own views, friendships and lives outside Together We Lift. We simply ask everyone to recognise the difference between speaking personally and speaking on behalf of the organisation.

Mental health conversations

We want people to feel that it is okay to talk. Sometimes being part of Together We Lift means somebody may open up about something they are going through.

Our role is to listen, support and signpost, not diagnose or treat.

Unless specifically qualified and authorised to do so, volunteers should never present themselves as counsellors, therapists or medical professionals. You do not need to have all the answers. Sometimes listening and helping someone find the right support is enough.

Collaboration comes first

Together We Lift will make its own decisions about the people, gyms, businesses, charities and organisations we work with. We will not end, avoid or refuse a relationship solely because another person, business or organisation has a personal disagreement, commercial rivalry or negative relationship with them.

We will listen to genuine concerns, particularly those involving safeguarding, unlawful behaviour, discrimination, harassment, safety or serious misconduct, and will consider these appropriately.

However, personal disputes should not be used to place pressure on Together We Lift to take sides.

Our organisation is built around collaboration and community. We want to work with people who genuinely want to help others, build stronger communities and contribute positively rather than use Together We Lift to criticise, undermine or exclude others.

Together We Are Stronger is not simply our slogan. It is how we choose to work.

How we treat people

When representing Together We Lift, we ask everyone to:

  • Treat people with kindness, dignity and respect.

  • Welcome people regardless of their background, ability, experience or circumstances.

  • Listen without judgement.

  • Never bully, intimidate, discriminate against or deliberately exclude someone.

  • Remember that there is always a person behind the conversation.

You do not have to agree with everybody. We simply expect disagreements to be handled respectfully.

Safeguarding

Everyone representing Together We Lift shares responsibility for creating a safe environment. Our Safeguarding Policy must be followed whenever there is a concern involving a child, young person or adult at risk.

Safeguarding concerns should be reported to:

safeguarding@togetherwelift.co.uk

Designated Safeguarding Leads:
Maria Krzesinska
Liam Baker

Volunteers should listen, record what is necessary and report concerns. They should not investigate safeguarding matters themselves.

Protect the community, not egos

We will not support behaviour designed to create unnecessary division within the communities we work with. If there is a genuine concern about someone's behaviour, safety or suitability to work with Together We Lift, please raise it with us privately and appropriately.

Gossip, public arguments, personal campaigns and attempts to involve Together We Lift in disputes that do not concern us are not consistent with the community we are trying to build. We would much rather use our energy helping people.

What we ask from every volunteer

You do not need to be the strongest person in the room.

You do not need to know everything about mental health.

You do not need to agree with everyone you meet.

We simply ask you to be approachable, respectful, willing to listen and committed to helping us build something positive.

Together We Lift exists to make mental health support more visible, more local and more integrated within the fitness community.

That only works if we keep bringing people together.

Communication. Trust. Community.
