Safeguarding Policy

Last reviewed: September 2026

Together We Lift CIC is committed to providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone involved in our activities. We recognise our responsibility to safeguard children, young people and adults at risk who may come into contact with Together We Lift through our events, school visits, exhibitions, community activities, partner gyms and other programmes.

Our commitment

Together We Lift will:

  • Treat the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and adults at risk as a priority.

  • Take all safeguarding concerns, disclosures and allegations seriously.

  • Ensure volunteers understand their safeguarding responsibilities.

  • Use appropriate safer recruitment and safeguarding measures for roles involving children or adults at risk.

  • Obtain DBS checks at the appropriate level where a volunteer's role is legally eligible for such a check.

  • Work with schools, gyms, event organisers, local authorities, police and other relevant organisations when safeguarding concerns arise.

  • Handle safeguarding information sensitively and only share information where necessary and appropriate to protect an individual or meet a legal obligation.

Expected conduct

Together We Lift volunteers must behave appropriately and professionally when representing the organisation.

Volunteers must not place themselves in situations that could create unnecessary safeguarding risks, including avoidable unsupervised one-to-one contact with children or young people.

When attending a school, college or partner organisation, our volunteers must also follow that organisation's safeguarding procedures and instructions.

Reporting a concern

Anyone who sees, hears or receives information that causes concern about the welfare or safety of a child, young person or adult at risk should report it as soon as possible.

Concerns can be reported confidentially to:

safeguarding@togetherwelift.co.uk

Designated Safeguarding Leads:
Maria Krzesinska
Liam Baker

Our volunteers should not investigate safeguarding concerns themselves. Their responsibility is to listen, record relevant information accurately and report the concern promptly.

Where an activity takes place within a school or partner organisation, concerns should also be raised through that organisation's safeguarding procedures where appropriate.

If a safeguarding concern relates to one of our Designated Safeguarding Leads, it should be reported to the other Safeguarding Lead. Where a concern relates to both, or where reporting internally would be inappropriate, concerns should be raised directly with the relevant local authority safeguarding service or police.

If someone is in immediate danger or there is an immediate risk of serious harm, call 999.

Allegations concerning volunteers

Any allegation that a Together We Lift volunteer has harmed, may have harmed, or may pose a risk to a child or adult at risk will be taken seriously.

Together We Lift will take appropriate steps to protect those involved and will refer concerns to the relevant safeguarding authority, police, Disclosure and Barring Service or other body where required.

Confidentiality and information sharing

Safeguarding information will be treated sensitively and access will be limited to those who need the information. Confidentiality cannot be guaranteed where information needs to be shared to protect a child, young person or adult at risk from harm. Personal information will be handled in accordance with applicable data protection legislation.

Legal framework

Together We Lift will follow the safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance and local safeguarding arrangements applicable to the location in which we are operating.

Our approach is informed by relevant UK safeguarding legislation and guidance, including requirements relating to the protection of children and adults at risk, safer recruitment, information sharing and Disclosure and Barring Service checks.

Review

This policy will be reviewed at least annually, or sooner following a significant safeguarding incident or relevant change in legislation or guidance.
